The Year of the Priest – A Call for Spiritual Perfection
"Without priestly ministry, there would be no Eucharist,
no mission and even no Church."

– Pope Benedict XVI

Pope Benedict XVI has declared June 19, 2009 to June 19, 2010 to be "the Year of the Priest," as it marks the 150th anniversary of the death of the St. John Vianney, a true example of a pastor at the service of Christ's flock. He is currently the patron saint of parish priests but during this Jubilee Year, he will be proclaimed the patron saint of all the world's priests!

This year will serve as an opportunity to foster proper priestly formation, encourage vocations and educate the laity on how to support our priests. According to the Holy Father, "It is important to encourage priests, especially the young generations, to a correct reading of the texts of Vatican Council II, interpreted in the light of all the Church's doctrinal inheritance."

For your next event, please consider hosting a Catholic speaker who can provide great insights about this holy Year of the Priest, to educate the laity and to inspire spiritual perfection in our pastors.
